Care Professional of the Month - May 2025

Clearwater May 2025 Care Pro of the Month Louis Williams

Louis Took on Family Caregiving Challenges Before Becoming a Home Instead Care Pro

During most of their 25 years of marriage, Louis Williams compassionately dealt with his late wife’s medical challenges as her caregiver. “She had several chronic conditions that needed my attention,” Louis recalled, “and her last 10 years required intense caregiving.”

Louis added: “It was during those 10 years when she was placed on kidney dialysis three days a week. Her declining kidney function led to a myriad of medications and dietary restrictions that needed close attention.”

During those difficult days when Louis was ministering to his wife, he couldn’t possibly have predicted that meeting his wife’s caregiving challenges would serve as a valuable source of job preparation for his later years, when he became a Care Professional with award-winning Home Instead® of Clearwater, Florida.

Eighteen months after joining the Home Instead franchise owned by Julie Castle, Louis was honored as a Care Pro of the Month. Director of Care Professional Services JC Crady said, “Louis embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of ‘Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.’ Among the considerations for achieving honored status, an employee has shown he has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Empathy and compassion are considered for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations.”

Louis found Home Instead by word of mouth. “My mother-in-law asked Home Instead for help with her husband. I am retired and wanted to supplement my pension, so I decided to apply for a position with Home Instead,” Louis explained. “The job is a good one. I see God’s Hand in everything that has happened.”

Louis added: “What I like most about being a Home Instead Care Pro is that hopefully I can help make a small difference in my clients’ daily lives during each visit. The clients become an extension of your own family. You build a special relationship with each of your clients and acquire knowledge of their unique needs. This knowledge allows you to personalize your visit and make their day a little brighter. In turn, that kind of unique assistance tailored to their needs gives you a feeling of accomplishment.”

In addition to his strong companionship skills, Louis provides safety assurance, meal preparation, medication reminders, light housekeeping, and transportation and errands. Louis offers personal assistance with eating, grooming, dressing, bathing, incontinence care, cognitive impairment, hospice support and mobility. By doing so, Louis not only assists his clients, but helps their families eliminate worry, reduce stress and re-establish personal freedom.

“I don’t have a favorite story about a particular client. Each visit with a client is a different, unique story,” Louis said. “When you learn about the clients’ families, their occupations, their hometowns – their histories – those are the stories that are memorable and my favorites. Their trust to be able to open up about their lives is special to me.”

Louis added: “The Good Lord has blessed me with a new journey. In addition to my job, I am newly married to a great wife.”
