It was a Hallmark moment for Care Professional of the Month Quantrella Guy-Bennett and her husband-and-wife clients. “It is my favorite Home Instead® story,” Quantrella said.
Every good story has a buildup, so Quantrella explained: “The husband had become ill and was bedridden, but his wife was mobile. Then, shortly after he had gotten well, his wife became ill and bedridden. He was worried about her.”
Quantrella recalled: “The wife wanted to get up and join her husband. I evaluated her situation and decided it would be safe to try, so I carefully managed to get her out of bed and into her wheelchair. I groomed and dressed her, and she looked nice for her husband. It was truly worth the effort.”
Quantrella added: “The wife and I joined her husband in the living room for a while, where they sat and watched TV together. He was so happy to see her up and in the wheelchair. They both were smiling. They held hands, talked, ate together and watched TV together. It made the day great for all of us.”
It’s no surprise that Quantrella has just the right touch with seniors. Quantrella, who has worked for owner Greg Gomez-Mira’s award-winning Home Instead franchise of south-central Houston for a year, has 20-plus years of experience in professional caregiving.
“As a Care Pro,” Quantrella said, “I love interacting with seniors. I love being able to nurture my clients and tend to their health. I love providing the clients with genuine care and companionship. I feel fulfilled when I can provide my clients with a peace of mind that they are in good hands. That is also true for my clients’ family members.”
Quantrella was referred to Home Instead by her sister, who was a Home Instead employee at the time. Quantrella had just moved to Texas and was looking for work in the caregiving field. Home Instead Scheduling Coordinator Jessica Williams said Quantrella has been a great fit for the position from Day One. Jessica noted: “ ‘Quan’ stepped in on one of our 24-hour care cases when a Care Pro moved away. ‘Quan’ has been a great addition to that team.”
Among the considerations for achieving Care Pro of the Month status, an employee has shown she has gone above and beyond the call of duty, Jessica pointed out. Empathy and compassion are taken into account for the award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Quantrella embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of “Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.”
Home Instead Human Resources Manager Margi Kenny said: “Quantrella may appear to be a bit soft spoken at first, but after warming up to someone, she is readily available to share her ideas and suggestions on problem-solving while having her clients’ choices honored. Quantrella has high-level skills and is a hard worker.”
