‘She Is Pretty Special:’ Honoree Glory Is a Client Favorite

Honolulu native Glory Tokoma’ata arrived at Home Instead® of Midland-Odessa, Texas, eight months ago like a shooting star that lit up the Permian Basin. Glory has been honored as the award-winning franchise’s Care Professional of the Month for March. The Home Instead staff is hoping for even more from Glory. “Glory has been a top choice for our Lead Care Pro position, and we are crossing our fingers and saying a prayer in hopes that she accepts,” Imelda Hawkins said.

“Glory, a CNA who came to us directly from Hawaii, brought a wealth of experience, having worked in hospitals. She shares her experiences in such a way that benefits each of her clients. Glory also is studying pre-nursing/RN at Midland College,” said Imelda, a former Care Pro of the Month at Midland-Odessa who is the franchise’s human resources director and recruitment and engagement coordinator.

Imelda added: “Glory’s detailed documentation makes it easy for any Care Pro to take the reins on the handoff after Glory’s shift ends with any client. Glory also provides great recommendations and ideas on what could improve a client’s quality of life. Glory is a prime example of someone who builds trust, takes the lead and shares her heart, which are Home Instead’s guiding principles. Not only is she a client favorite, but she is also pretty special to us in the office as well!”

Glory found Home Instead, owned by Lorena and William Shensky, while browsing the web. “I was looking to find a company that not only offered strong qualities, but also was a strong match for me,” Glory said. “I loved the way I was interviewed by Nancy Ervin, our engagement and training coordinator. That’s what drew me to work at Home Instead. The Home Instead staff members are just amazing and make you feel comfortable.”

Glory enjoys caring for others and making a difference in someone’s life, whether it’s a small or big task that conquers the challenge. “As long as our clients are happy, that’s all that matters to me,” Glory said. “What I like most about working for Home Instead is just the whole dynamic of how it’s managed. I feel I am valued by my franchise office, and it gives me such a boost to provide the best possible care to my clients. I like the fact that my office takes care of me and worries about my well-being.”

One of Glory’s favorite moments with a Home Instead client came as a bit of a surprise. Glory went to assist a client with light housekeeping and personal care, and she had finished all of her duties fairly early in the shift. Glory recalled what happened next: “The client had a game she played with other Care Pros and her family members, and she showed me how to play that day.”

Glory added: “We ended up playing the rest of the time. It was so much fun for us both. Now, anytime I assist this client, we make it a habit to play a round of that game. Someone even came up with a score sheet for our game. There are definitely ‘LOL’ moments.”

Glory loves being a part of the Care Pro team for one of Texas’ outstanding Home Instead franchises, members of the world’s largest home-care network and the most advanced care platform. Overall, there are more than 100,000 Care Pros across 13 countries, meeting the growing needs of millions of older adults and their families worldwide. For Glory and her fellow Care Pros, touching lives impacts their souls, whether they are providing physical help such as light housekeeping, meal preparation, medication reminders or personal care or if they are offering emotional support in a companionship role.
