In a Google® Review, the wife of a Home Instead® client delivered her glowing praise for Care Professional of the Month Charleon Kongnyuy and his award-winning franchise that serves Collin County from its office in Plano, Texas:
“Getting wonderful service from this company (Home Instead). We have Charleon coming to help around the house, and especially with my husband, who has dementia. Charleon is able to get him chatting, and Charleon also shares stories of his homeland. It has been a big relief for me, and I highly recommend them (Home Instead). Thank you (Home Instead) for all of your dedication to your clients! They appreciate you, and so do we! Thank you!”
That wasn’t the first time Charleon was touched by the significance of reviews that involved the Dallas-area Home Instead franchise owned by Chase and Taylor Crenwelge. During a job search earlier this year, Charleon found Home Instead, read reviews on Indeed.com and saw many positive comments from current and past Care Pros. “I had been looking online for a home-care company that truly supports its caregivers,” Charleon recalled. “I wanted an employer who respects its workers, offers steady shifts and communicates well.”
Charleon added: “The way people spoke about the company made me feel confident, and that encouraged me to apply for the Home Instead team. As a result, I interviewed, was offered a position and started working with Home Instead in May 2025.”
Before Home Instead, Charleon had worked for about two years as a caregiver in an assisted living facility. “I took care of residents with different conditions, such as dementia, and some with more challenging behavioral issues,” he said. “That experience helped me learn patience, understanding and how to stay calm in different situations.”
Charleon’s earlier family caregiving experiences factored into his preparations – serendipitous as they might have been – for growing a career in senior care. He explained: “I am originally from Cameroon in Africa, and I am the first child in a family of six. In my culture, being the first child comes with a lot of responsibility. I had to help look after my younger siblings and support my parents from an early age. That is where my love for caring for others started, it became natural for me to help anyone around me who needed support. Hence, the reason I decided to be a caregiver.”
In Cameroon, Charleon was a highly skilled sonographer with more than six years of experience. He said, “I gained valuable experience technology that included ultrasound equipment, the training of trainee sonographers and patient care, including providing compassion and empathy.”
Compassion and empathy are qualities the Home Instead staff and Charleon’s clients noticed. Empathy and compassion are considered for the franchise’s Care Pro of the Month award, as well as skill and wisdom for dealing with challenging situations. Among other considerations for achieving the honor, an employee has shown he has gone above and beyond the call of duty. Home Instead Care Pro Advocate Amanda Ross said: “Charleon is a hard worker and dependable. His clients enjoy him. Charleon embodies Home Instead’s guiding principles of ‘Build Trust, Take the Lead and Share Your Heart.’ ”
Charleon said: “Working with seniors brings me a lot of joy. I enjoy listening to their life stories because they have experienced so much. I like being there as a companion, so they don’t feel lonely, and I am happy to help them with their daily activities and make life a little easier and safer for them.”
One of Charleon’s clients was a quiet man who loved talking about his childhood on a farm. “He told me how he woke up at 4 a.m. to milk cows before going to school,” Charleon said. “He pointed out how life was simple then, but full of hard work. He always said young people today will never understand what real manual labor feels like.”
Charleon added: “Sometimes he laughed about how he and his brothers got in trouble for stealing fruit from a neighbor’s tree. Even though he moved to the city many years ago, he said the farm was still where his heart belonged. I could see how peaceful and happy he felt when he spoke about those memories, and it always made our time together very fun.”
